CocoRosie is a band formed in 2003 by two American sisters, Bianca and Sierra Casady ; an unclassified and touche-à-tout band, as it is shown by the desperate attempts of the most daredevil ones on the web to assign to them a skyline : gospel, lo-fi pop, nuts electro, hip-pop or even “badly dressed Folk”, we meet everything. We can thus stick to the colors which the Casady sisters qive to themselves on their Myspace, not without a touch of humour: : Christian Rap - Black Metal - Disco House… a funny program !
But the two sisters of Brooklyn don’t do only music : they draw, paint, shoot small films, would work even on an opera and participate to the Voodoo-EROS collective.
Bianca and Sierra Casady didn’t grow together ; their father, enlightened to shamanism, and their mother, artist, teacher and Amerindian, divorced as Bianca and Sierra were 3 and 5 years old. The two sisters were soon separated and when the got together in 2003 in Sierra’s attic room in Montmartre (Paris), that made nearly 10 years that they didn’t see themselves. There, they shut themselves away during 8 months, thus composing and recording an hip-hop album called Word to the crow (which will remain to some extent at the bottom of a drawer since it will never be diffused), then a second, La maison de mon rêve, for which they will sign at the independent label Touch and Go.
